Icarusis is an installation of small digital images printed on acetate in a layout derived from the periodic table. The periodic table catalogues all know substances, based on their molecular structure and physical properties. Its structure is a model that attempts to give universal order to the building blocks of all known materials. The title “Icarus” refers to a character in a Greek mythology who is commonly known for his attempt to escape Crete by flight that ends in a fall to his death. It is story of the dangers of human pride and over confidence in technology. In the photographic installation, natural fragments referring to flight are printed on clear acetate and floated in their frames.
